Dr. Diana Wood Named Tennessee Supervisor of the Year

The Putnam County School System is proud to announce that Dr. Diana Wood has been named the 2025–2026 Tennessee Supervisor of the Year by the Tennessee Department of Education. The honor was presented at the annual Excellence in Education celebration in Nashville.

A Major Honor for PCSS

Dr. Wood, who serves as the PreK–4 Instructional Supervisor for PCSS, was first selected as the district’s Supervisor of the Year by school principals. That recognition positioned her for regional and statewide consideration. With this honor, she becomes the first supervisor in Putnam County to earn the statewide award.

Dr. Wood was first selected as the district’s Supervisor of the Year by school principals, advancing her to regional and statewide consideration.

About the Recognition

Dr. Wood currently serves as the PreK–4 Instructional Supervisor for Putnam County School System. Her recognition began at the local level, where school principals selected her as the district’s Supervisor of the Year. That achievement moved her into regional and statewide consideration and ultimately led to Tennessee Supervisor of the Year honors.

The award was presented at the annual Excellence in Education celebration held at the Noah Liff Opera Center in Nashville. The honor highlights both Dr. Wood’s leadership and the strong work happening across Putnam County Schools.

Leadership and Service

A veteran educator and administrator, Dr. Wood previously served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal at Capshaw Elementary School. She has served as the PCSS elementary instructional supervisor since 2021, helping strengthen instructional practices, support school leaders, and elevate student success across the district.

Dr. Wood is deeply committed to building collaborative networks that support children and families. She serves on the Bright Start Tennessee steering committee, a multi-county initiative focused on high-quality early care and education systems through strong community partnerships.

Professional Background

Dr. Wood previously served as a teacher, assistant principal, and principal at Capshaw Elementary School before moving into district leadership.

Community Involvement

She serves on the Bright Start Tennessee steering committee, helping support strong early care, education, and family engagement partnerships.

Additional Service

She is also an active member of the Tennessee Literacy Council and serves on the Board of Directors for her local Child Advocacy Center.

Additional Recognition at the Event

Dr. Melissa Palk, principal at Northeast Elementary, also attended the event. She was a finalist for Principal of the Year after being selected as the PCSS Principal of the Year, placing her in consideration for regional and state recognition.

A Message of Pride

Director of Schools Corby King also praised Dr. Wood’s leadership and impact, noting that she reflects the servant leadership valued across the district. Her recognition brings statewide attention to the work being done in Putnam County on behalf of students, schools, and families.
